This morning when we were walking the dog we came across an echidna train, something I have been hoping to see. Mid to late winter is the echidnas breeding season. During this time a line of males follow a female around in the hope that if they are persistent enough they get the chance to mate with her. Echidna trains can have up to 11 echidnas and last up to six weeks before mating occurs. During this time they forage, walk and rest as a group. This female only has 2 suitors at the moment but may accumulate more over the weeks. They were not very cooperative for the photo
